The Flying M Ranch is owned and operated by Michael and Janis Murphy.  As of this writing we’ve been married 26 years and have 4 children and 6 grand children.  Michael is a retired Captain with United Airlines and Janis works as an EMT-I for the county EMS.  We bought the “Brownlee Farm” in 1999, it needed a lot of cleaning up of the grounds and repairs to the house and facilities.  We now had a place to raise something, and began the search to decide just what that would be.  After seeing an ad about alpacas we began our research and in late 2001 purchased our first Suris; two 3-in-1 packages and a maiden female.  We chose Suris for two reasons; we both loved the long flowing pencils of fiber compared to the wooly look of the Huacayas, and also being much more rare we believe the investment potential is much better and longer lasting.  We now have a herd of over 80 beautiful Suris of every color.  We built a modern barn which offers protection to the animals (and us) in 2004.

We are Committed to this industry!  Michael has served as President of MOPACA (our local affiliate), he has served as board member of The Suri Network where he was board liaison to the Marketing Committee and Managing Editor of Purely Suri (a role he continues), the affiliate’s semi-annual magazine.  The Suri Network is dedicated to the preservation of the Suri Alpaca and we firmly believe in that mission.

All our female Suris are sold either bred or with a free breeding when they are of age.  All Suris are sold including transportation to your ranch.  We feel it is best you have nothing to worry you after the purchase and no surprise expenses.

We are excited to announce our long time dream of a Bed and Breakfast in conjunction with the alpaca ranch is going forward!  We hope to break ground for our new log home in fall ‘08; this will free up the old museum house for the basis of the B&B with extra space in the log house to use as needed.
